Your dictation is never stored.

By default the Linux app uses fast transcription: each utterance is sent over an encrypted connection to typemic.com, transcribed on our infrastructure, typed at your cursor, and immediately discarded. Audio and transcript are kept for zero seconds after the response, not logged, not used to train anything, not shared. Only counts (words, seconds) are recorded, for the free weekly allowance.

The TypeMic application

TypeMic processes recordings ephemerally and does not persist audio or transcript text, on your device or on our servers. It keeps count-only usage events (word and duration counts) so the free weekly allowance can be calculated.

Fast transcription is on by default: the app registers the install with typemic.com on first start (a random device identifier), and dictating requires a one-time free Google sign-in that binds that identifier to your account, we receive your email address and name from Google, nothing else. Dictation audio (and, for the cleanup pass, transcript text) is sent to typemic.com, processed, and discarded on response. The app discloses this with a notice at every start, it is never silent.

• Usage statistics shown in the dashboard (word counts and durations) are stored on your device and never contain transcript text.
• When the mobile apps ship: on iOS and Android, TypeMic will request on-device recognition when the OS reports it is available. Otherwise the OS speech provider may process audio remotely, depending on the device, installed language model, and system settings. TypeMic will not receive that audio or result.
• When the mobile apps ship: on Android, the optional floating-mic feature will use the Accessibility API to detect a focused editable field and read text immediately around the cursor solely to insert and format dictated words. This access is shown in a separate consent screen; the field content will not be stored, collected, shared, or transmitted by TypeMic.

The typemic.com website

When you use this website we keep:

• Waitlist and feedback forms: the email address and message you submit. A waitlist signup gets one confirmation email and one email the day that platform ships, sent from hello@typemic.com through our hosting provider; nothing else is sent to that address. For rate limiting, your IP is stored only as a salted one-way hash. If you are signed in when you send feedback, the report is linked to your account, that is what lets us credit the bonus words and reply to you.
• Downloads: a log entry when a release file is downloaded.
• TypeMic accounts: when you choose Google sign-in, we store your email address, profile image URL, account creation time, and a 30-day sign-in session cookie.
• Billing: Stripe processes payment details. TypeMic stores Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, plan, status, renewal timing, and payment/refund records, but does not receive full card details.
• Device links and referrals: if you use these features, we store the short-lived link code, linked-account status, referral code, and bonus entitlement needed to provide them.

We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site advertising cookies. The website uses first-party session cookies for signed-in users and administrators. Our hosting provider, Google (optional sign-in), and Stripe (billing) each handle data under their own privacy terms.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your personal data. See the account-deletion instructions or contact us. We will action verified requests within 30 days, subject to records we must retain by law.
